In a bid to promote literacy and reach underserved communities, JOF Library has launched a Mobile Library Initiative, bringing books directly to children and adults who lack access to traditional libraries. The initiative aims to bridge the literacy gap by delivering free books, organizing reading sessions, and encouraging a culture of reading in remote and low-income areas.

Why a Mobile Library?

While many urban areas have access to libraries and bookstores, rural communities often struggle with limited educational resources. Schools in these areas may lack well-stocked libraries, and buying books is a luxury many families cannot afford.

“Education should not be a privilege—it’s a right,” said Ngozi Adeyemi, JOF Library’s project coordinator. “Through our mobile library, we want to bring knowledge to the people, instead of waiting for them to come to us.”

How the Mobile Library Works

📖 A Library on Wheels – A specially designed van stocked with books travels to different communities weekly.

📚 Book Borrowing Program – Readers can borrow books for free, with the option to return them on the next visit.

🎤 Storytelling & Literacy Workshops – Volunteers host reading sessions, book discussions, and literacy training for children and adults.

🤝 Community Partnerships – Local schools, NGOs, and community leaders collaborate to identify high-need areas.

Impact on the Community

Since the launch of the program, many children and adults have discovered a newfound love for reading. Parents have also embraced the initiative, attending reading sessions with their children and encouraging learning at home.

“This is the first time my son has held a storybook of his own,” said Amina Yusuf, a mother from one of the visited communities. “Now, he looks forward to the mobile library every week.”
