In a bid to promote literacy and encourage a reading culture, JOF Library has launched a new Community Reading Drive aimed at students, young learners, and book enthusiasts. This initiative comes as part of JOF Library’s broader mission to make knowledge accessible to all, especially in underserved communities.
Bringing Books to the People
Unlike traditional library services, the Community Reading Drive will take books beyond the library’s walls. Pop-up reading hubs will be set up in schools, community centers, and even open spaces where children and adults can engage with books in a relaxed, interactive setting. Librarians and volunteers will also assist with guided reading sessions for younger participants.
The Importance of Literacy in the Digital Age
While digital media has reshaped how people consume information, experts warn that deep reading skills are declining, especially among younger generations. JOF Library’s initiative is designed to reinforce traditional reading habits while complementing digital learning tools. “We want to remind people that books are not just sources of information but also powerful tools for imagination and personal growth,” said Sarah Nwosu, a literacy advocate and project lead.
Upcoming Events and How to Participate
The reading drive officially kicks off next month with a Book Walk, where volunteers will distribute free books in select locations. Other activities will include storytelling sessions, book swaps, and writing competitions to engage participants in creative ways.
Interested individuals can participate by:

A Step Towards a Reading Revolution
JOF Library hopes that this initiative will ignite a love for books and improve literacy levels within the community. “A single book can change a person’s life. We want to put more of these life-changing books into the hands of those who need them most,” Sarah added.
