The Power of Reading: JOF Library Launches “One Book, One Community” Initiative

In an effort to foster a shared reading culture and strengthen community ties, JOF Library has introduced the “One Book, One Community” initiative—a literacy program designed to get an entire community reading and discussing the same book.

Building a Culture of Reading, One Book at a Time

The initiative aims to encourage collective reading and discussion by selecting one impactful book for the entire community to read over a set period. Discussions, debates, and interactive sessions will be held at the library and in various community centers to spark meaningful conversations about the book’s themes.

“Reading isn’t just about personal growth—it’s about bringing people together,” said Ifeoma Adebayo, JOF Library’s literacy coordinator. “Through this initiative, we want to create a space where people can engage with stories that educate, inspire, and unite.”

How It Works

Each season, JOF Library will:
📖 Select one book based on its relevance, impact, and readability.
🗓️ Host weekly discussions where participants can share insights.
🎤 Invite guest speakers—including authors, educators, and social leaders—to enrich the conversation.
🏆 Organize a reading challenge with rewards for engaged participants.

Why This Matters

The “One Book, One Community” initiative is more than just a reading program—it’s a movement to promote literacy, encourage critical thinking, and strengthen community bonds. By sharing a common book, people from different backgrounds can come together and exchange ideas in a meaningful way.
